For its 21st Bal Masque, The Mystic Krewe of Apollo de New Orleans presented "Tony, Tony, Tony" January 13, 2024, at the historic Carver Theater in New Orleans.
Returning to this exciting venue and seeing continued growth as a Krewe (41 members at ball time), the ball involved costumes inspired by productions that won Tony Awards for one thing or another, as well as a few that were "also rans." From "White Christmas" to "Oklahoma," "Music Man" to "Dreamgirls," and "Phantom of the Opera" to "Priscilla Queen of the Desert," the night was full of exciting costumes and music.
The ball honored reigning King and Queen Apollo New Orleans XX William Stevenson and Ned Pitre, who returned as Dr. Bombay and Endora as they "popped in" on Broadway.
It culminated with the crowning of King and Queen Apollo New Orleans XXI Dale Bowling, who portrayed Camelot, and Sheeya Mann, who, along with an entourage or artists, appeared to depict Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Thanks to Captain Dr. Rick Cain and his team (Co-captains Gia GiaVanni and Laura Lawton and Lieutenant Barbara Carson) for directing a line of 19 costumes and production numbers that ensured it was an evening of food, fun and friends for everyone.
